Lon Chaney, born Leonidas Frank Chaney on April 1, 1883 –
was
an American silent film actor. Chaney is known for his roles in such
silent horror films as The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923),
The Phantom of the Opera (1925) and London After Midnight
(1927). His legendary makeup techniques earned him the nickname "The Man of a Thousand Faces."
