MGM acquired the rights to Paramount’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde (1931) and ordered every print of the 1931 film located and destroyed in
order to keep it out of circulation and from competing with its 1941 version.
This search and destroy campaign essentially
made Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931)
a "lost film" for several decades with the exception of a
few clips until the full version was later found and restored.
