According to the Guinness Book of Records, The Shining (1980) holds the record for the most takes of a single scene. The scene where Shelley Duvall’s character, Wendy is backing up the staircase swinging the baseball bat was shot 127 times. However Steadicam operator Garrett Brown and assistant editor Gordon Stainforth claim that the scene was only shot about 35-45 times.
